Local contractors are joining forces with GCCARD (Genesee County Community Action Resource Department) to install water  filters for 200 households in Flint.  GCCARD has identified individuals who are homebound, disabled or elderly who are in need of having installation completed in their homes.

UA Local 370 of the Plumbers, Pipefitters, Service Trades is working with contractors from Goyette Mechanical, Johnson & Wood and William Floyd on the project.  All the labor has been donated and the contractors have donated supplies and the vehicles for use during installation.

To date, 100 filters have been installed with another 100 slated to be completed shortly.  The contractors are working closely with GCCARD to identify the homes where the filters will be placed.

“We are excited to be a part of this project.  Working with GCCARD has allowed us to help individuals who would otherwise not have access to clean water. These are individuals who may not have been able to get a filter at one of the distribution sites or who are unable to install the filters themselves,” said Harold Harrington with UA Local 370. “Our contractors are grateful to have the opportunity to volunteer their time with this effort.”

Households receiving filter installation are identified by GCCARD. Questions about the volunteer program through UA Local 370 should be directed to Harrington  at 810-513-2345.
